If you fully understand renters insurance and feel comfortable with the package you’ve selected online then it’s fine. However if you don’t’ know much about insurance and just find a cheap price I would call that company or find an agent that can answer your questions and make sure you are properly covered.

I live in NYC and want to buy renters insurance. Does this cover flooding (from the sprinkler system), fire and robbery? I don’t want to spend more than 0-0 a year. Any advice?

Flood is not the right word. Water from a sprinkler system or a pipe breaking is called “water damage”. Renters insurance does cover some types of water damage and fire and theft.
The price depends on many things. It is pretty reasonable. Get a quote from the company that carries your auto insurance. If you don’t have auto insurance, then just call some local agents for some quotes. It is usually around what you said you want to pay unless you have some pretty expensive stuff.

I was told by a apartment complex that I had to have ,000,000 worth of coverage in my policy. Is this amount allowed by law? I’ve never heard of such a large policy amount for renter’s insurance.
BTW, I live in north Texas.

I think you’re misunderstanding.
First, Three MILLION dollars? maybe for a liability limit, but that’s absurd for property coverage. And I’d guess that you added an extra zero, that it’s actually 0,000 in LIABILITY coverage – and on a renters policy in North Texas, that total policy should cost you around 0 a year.
Second, laws tell you what you CANNOT do. Insurance complexes can require anything they want, and if you don’t want to comply, you live in a different complex. They CANNOT give different standards to different renters.
So there’s no upper limit, what they can require as a condition of living there. And you don’t have to live there, if you don’t like the conditions.

Question by : How much is tenant liability AKA renters insurance?
I’m thinking about renting a house with a month to month lease at very low cost. These are houses for sale that want income until they are sold. They require 0,000 liability insurance. I know that reputable insurance companies do a credit check just to give a quote that dings your credit rating if you have too many inquiries at the same time. Can someone give me a guestimate? Thanks in advance!

It depends. You can get very low rates with allstate and state farm. You can also ask your auto insurance provider. In some cases you even qualify for additional multi line discounts and you end up paying month on top of your regular monthly payment. I have State Farm and its 0/year with 300,000 of personal liability. Ask your agent for a quote and this may be a good opportunity to shop your rates.
